ABOUT HAN FANG
Drawing deep from the annals of Chinese history, Chinese artist Han Fang references the culture and imagery of the Chu Kingdom era. Set during the Spring, Autumn, and Warring States period, Chu was a culturally rich epoch that influenced the course of Chinese history.
With Han Fang’s works is the understanding that imagination is stronger than knowledge, and myth more potent than history. His oeuvre extends beyond a contemporary representation of history, but a reimagination of fables and historical anecdotes, along with his personal humour and pathos. Bridging time and space, Han Fang breathes new life into an esoteric past that is often only glimpsed through the looking glass of a historian.
Each painting is a fragment of memory, a hint at a tantalizing tale, and a reminder of the circularity of life where people loved, laughed, worried, and contemplated like we do now.
Following his graduation from Hubei Institute of Fine Arts (HIFA), Han Fang has gone on to participate in several solo and group exhibitions internationally and domestically. The artist is currently based in Wuhan as a professional artist.
