White Space Art Asia is proud to announce our second solo show with Indonesian artist Mutiara Riswari, ‘Sense and Sensibility’.
In her second iteration with White Space, Riswari’s works grace our shores with a spectacle of colour, accompanied with deeper, intense hues and an equally evocative universe. In ‘Sense and Sensibility’, Riswari chases the divide between rational judgement and emotions, and what emerges on canvas is the age old battle between reasons and desire. A master over an infinite lexicon of colours, Riswari’s polychromatic world speaks of an artist well-versed in the emotions of colour and the stories within.

Inspired by the Javanese philosophy, ‘Jagat Alit’, a concept that describes humans as an inseparable part of the universe, Mutiara’s works are concerned with how small, microscopic events can reveal the natural order of the world. Drawing from past childhood memories spent drawing with crayons, Riswari’s works have a child-like, naïve quality that heightens the raw, instinctual style of her oeuvre. Varying textures of crayon are applied on gestural strokes of paint, playing on the tension between stroke, colour and composition. Within each one of her works is a multifaceted world that invites you to experience emotions versed in colour.
Following her graduation from Indonesia Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta, Mutiara Riswari has gone on to participate in both solo and group shows domestically and internationally.
