The Locious
In Javanese culture, every sea, tree, river, hill, and season has a Genius Locus, also known as a guardian spirit. These Genius Loci take form in Galih’s cast of characters, the Locious. Each of the Locious embodies an element of nature. His latest series explores the healing of an ecosystem and prompts you to think beyond our conventional understanding of Nature and human interactions.
ABOUT GALIH SUSENO
Javanese artist Galih’s concern with the environment sprung from the loss of his childhood village home to urbanisation. His works are fuelled by a sincere desire to reconcile the gap between humans and the natural environment. He yearns to rekindle the reverence humans once had for the earth. Specialising in acrylic and modelling paste, Galih’s oeuvre is reminiscent of the Pointillism movement when viewed from a distance. Close up, Galih’s lovable characters are immensely textured, reflecting his unique style of work.
Galih has held an impressive number of solo shows and won multiple art awards in Indonesia.
