White Space Art Asia is pleased to announce our new show, ‘Faceless’ from local artist Eric Leong. A keen observer of the world, Eric Leong is an artist that bridges the chasm between the silent and society. Going by the moniker, ‘Outsider’, Leong surveys society through his vantage point as an artist, using visual language to express the unsaid.

Faceless figures are the hallmark of Outsider’s works. Despite their blank façade, they reveal their unspoken thoughts through detailed mannerisms and style. Illustrated in prismatic colours, patterns and various symbols, he constructs an enigmatic world that allows for the freedom of expression without censorship. Each piece in his oeuvre is carefully drafted and executed with a message, yet its nebulous nature gives viewers freedom to discern its meaning.

The concept of identity and freedom are one of the overarching themes in Outsider’s works, which reveals themselves in the butterflies, birds and masks that appear throughout. The range of symbols that detail his works highlight the significance of visuals in Outsider’s lexicon and how they shape the nuances of his painting’s narratives. With the level of care and meaningful detail put into every facet of the work, it only attests to Outsider’s sensitivity to the voices and the stories that they tell. All in all, Faceless is a series that beholds a wealth of stories waiting to be heard.
