Cahyono’s works are mostly monochromatic, while his concept is built on an accumulation of his experiences, memories, observations, and reflections. The works are associated with urban culture, identity and cultural products that also represent his personal feelings and character. Cahyono prefers to work backwards in a way, by discovering his concept and title of the work before his starts painting.
Like inspiration Anselm Kiefer, Cahyono enjoys experimentation and exploration of various new materials and techniques when creating his artworks. He especially enjoys the combination of painting and printmaking techniques on canvas, such as creating collagraph prints by cutting into hardboards. One thing Cahyono truly admires about Kiefer’s work, is how he is able to develop a dramatic theme throughout his works with a sense of “free spirit”.
